I love the New Year!!! I have all these visions of how fabulous I will look at the stroke of midnight as my friends and family all gather around counting down the clock...I'm always expecting something magical to happen as the New Year's ball drops and everyone yells Happy New Year!!! I think somewhere ingrained in us from childhood is that NYE = glittery, sparkly, and being fancy so I naturally gravitate to anything shiny for my outfit. The options for ringing in the new year are really endless...
Depending on how your 'survived' the holidays ,which pretty much consisted of complete gluttony and endless amounts of food (hey, you only live once!), I might go with something flowy or less form fitting. I tend to picture myself as glowing and wearing something that I would normally not have an excuse to wear other than the new year which of course means SEQUINS!!! You will definitely turn heads in our rose gold sequin Star Of The Show Dress in an art deco design or sparkling red sequin embellished Night To Remember Dress. No one will forget you either in our Feeling Fancy Dress cascading in layers of gold, white and black sequins with a 20's inspired silhouette.
Don't worry if dresses really aren't your 'thing' or you would rather go with a more casual look... there's still endless options! You can still sparkle the night away with a pair of our Show Stopper Sequin Leggings in either gold or bronze! I like to pair these with the City Girl Tunic or Simplicity is Key Tunic. They both have a flowing silhouette which will allow you to enjoy the night and perhaps indulge a little more ;) These are also perfect over your favorite leggings and skinny jeans too so they are in constant rotation in my wardrobe. Another top I LOVE to pair over these leggings or with a pair of structured pants is Just Add Flair Tank. This is my go-to tank all year round. It's versatile enough for any occasion whether you are dressing up or going casual. I love it with our Get Festive Skirt tucked in. This skirt has a very classic vintage feel to it with it's A-line flare and bow in back. The options really are endless for the night!
Finish off any outfit with the right accessories and perfect pair of heels or booties. For a dressier bootie I tend to gravitate to our 'Fur' The Love Bootie in black or burgundy. I fall head over 'heels' for our Date Night Heels. These babies are featured in black and nude and go with just about anything, from skinny jeans to being decked out to the nines! So grab a glass of champagne & a best friend or two, and ring in the New Year feeling fabulous!
Happy New Year from all of us @ JDB!
Growing up in Connecticut I was MADE for Fall!!! Each leaf that I spy that is starting to turn brings childhood memories flooding back. The crisp Autumn air, apple and pumpkin picking, visiting the cider mill where they had fresh made donuts, carving pumpkins, and of course raking and jumping in piles and piles of leaves! I'm one of five girls and this is also when my poor mom lugged giant bags out of the attic filled with tons of sweaters, sweatshirts, jeans, turtlenecks and tried finding all of us light-weight jackets that fit. Flash forward to present day where I am writing this living in Texas, oh how times have changed!
Thanks to my childhood I have an obsession with fall fashion! I love nothing more than throwing on a chunky over-sized sweater, leggings and a pair of boots and being on my way! So since I consider myself an expert in this area, I can't help but talk about some of my favorites. I will start with the perfect sweater and go from there...
There is so much to choose from for sweaters. Like I said I LOVE chunky oversized sweaters. One of my staples are definitely cardigans. The nice thing about a cardigan is that you can make any "warm-weather" item perfect for cooler weather just by throwing one on. We have a ton of sweaters to choose from! I'm in trouble seeing all our new arrivals come in daily! There's lighter-weight cardigans such as Take Your Pick, Button Me Up and Traveling Companion. Then, heavier ones like Warm Thoughts and Choose Your Angle Cardigan. We also have cardigan vests which I think are essential over any long sleeved top or dress. I think I will live in my Diamond In The Rough Vest or That's A Wrap Cardigan over a Piko Top this fall. They both have a ton of texture and Diamond In The Rough is loaded with detail in the Aztec pattern along the front and across the back.
If layering isn't your thing, that's ok. I've got you covered...literally! I suggest throwing on our Fireside Sweater Dress or Smooth Moves Suede Dress with a pair of boots or booties. Our French Terry Tunic, Icing On The Cake, or one of our Plaid Button-Ups is definitely in my cool weather wardrobe rotation. It is just too easy to pair them with your favorite skinny jeans or leggings. This brings me to my second 'must-have' this season and that is leggings. Leggings have come a long way from just your basic cotton solid prints. Our fleece lined leggings are UH-AMAZING, the perfect thickness and warmth and comes in multiple colors. I like to add our Liquid Leggings to just about anything to add a twist of texture to any outfit, especially if I'm tired of basic black.
Lastly, let's talk about boots...I cannot survive the cold without a pair (or 3!) of boots and booties. I mean a girl has to have options right? Honestly though I can find excuse for each pair, haha. Knee high boots are perfect to throw on with a pair of boot socks or legwarmers, either alone or over leggings or jeggings. Booties are just as versatile and there's something about having just the right amount of a heel that add that little extra boost to any outfit. They can be dressed up or just casual. I feel like booties also work well with any height, they hit just the right spot on the ankle to compliment any leg length. For more casual looks, we love our highly sought after Rain or Shine Duck Boots and Puddle Jumper Rain Boots. These are both amazing for those dreary wet days and will keep you warm and dry and of course stylish. I love my Puddle Jumpers with a cute pair of boot socks, the deep olive color is a great neutral.
So that about sums up all of my fall favorites from head to toe, other than accessories. You can finish off any outfit with a necklace, hat, scarf, or pair of earrings if you'd like, and you are good to go! I could probably write an entire blog on scarves alone because they are so versatile but that's for another day ;-)
Happy shopping ;-)
Confession...every season about halfway through I'm just 'over it' and start longing for the next season. I LOVE the changing of the seasons! There is this sense of a new start that is refreshing, especially when it starts cooling off here in Texas. BUT, there is always this in-between stage of transitioning from season to season (where it's not quite the end of summer or the start of fall yet), and that of course brings me to... "what do I wear?!"
Don't start packing up your summer wardrobe yet, most pieces can be transitioned over to fall and even year-round by changing it up a bit. We will start with my first trick, LAYERING! I love outfits with depth and texture, something to grab the eye. Also by adding pieces with earth tones such as olive, deep purples/burgundy, and rust can help cool down your summer florals. I like to add the perfect cardigan, jacket or poncho on top of my dresses and tanks when the temperature starts to finally drop. I would stick with a solid layering piece if doing on top of a print such as our Love In Lace Cardigan. The great thing about these is that they still have enough detail and texture to be pulled off as the main focus of your outfit if just thrown over a Seamless Cami or our Bare Necessity Tank. I must admit though, the Bare Necessity tank has enough texture and detail with the chiffon hemline to wear alone too. If you are wanting a little more print and pops of color you can go with a poncho or kimono like the On the Hunt Poncho and Mix It Up Kimono/Vest.
So that covers what to do with your tops and dresses, now lets talk bottoms. I'm really not kidding when I say do not put away any of your summer clothes yet, even shorts. Yes, shorts can even be transitioned with a cute pair of booties and a cardigan or tunic. Personally I'm in LOVE with our Fringe Booties! If it's a little too chilly to continue wearing shorts it might be time to invest in a perfectly fitting pair of jeans and my 2nd love, Denim Jeggings. A little tip here is proportion and balance. When you're doing a bootcut jean such as our CELLO Bootcut Jean, lean towards a top that is more tailored to your frame. The boot cut adds width, and if you are adding width up top too, it can sometimes come off as too heavy. Rules can be broken though ;-)
I also like to stand by 'skin is still in.' No need to start covering yourself head-to-toe quite yet. I like to keep a peek of skin showing during this transition whether its my legs in shorts or a dress and even my feet in sandals. I find that I can lighten up a fall outfit with a pair of sandals to keep it still weather appropriate for this in-between stage. I better not see any of you ladies wearing socks with sandals though, if it's that cold then throw on a pair of booties or boots with Button and Lace Leg Warmers or Lace-Trimmed Boot Socks.
Lastly, accessorize, accessorize! The options really are endless. Throwing on a hat like the Luxe Wool Floppy Hat adds a vintage feel to any outfit. Also by simply switching out your handbag can give your outfit a completely different feel. Layering jewelry and adding chunkier, heavier pieces help pull together an in-between seasons outfit. These might all seem like small changes but can really 'make' an outfit. It adds texture, interest and changes the tone and mood almost effotlessly.
Happy shopping ;-)
Every year when Independence Day rolls around I open my closet and stare hoping for something patriotic to jump out at me... as memories of past 4th of July's come back to me. (I mean waaaay back as a child). As a family we would go to our local parade, I remember proudly waving my little American flag and at everyone that marched past. Then off to our family picnic where we spent the evening running barefoot through the grass with sparklers and catching fireflies. The ending of the night was always my favorite watching the fireworks display by our local firefighters.
Anyways, back to my closet... My worries of how to dress patriotic and still look fashionable are no more! Our USA collection has everything for everyone from scarves, hats, shoes, shirts to dresses. Now I'm faced with a new dilemma, too much to wear! I LOVE this problem!!!
As tempting as it is to wear everything I own that is red, white and blue or with an American flag, I really do feel there is a right wear to put together everything. You have two ways of going about putting together your outfit. I would start with a patriotic anchor piece to base your outfit around such as our All American Girl Tee, Live Free Tank or our Southern Darlin' Tee-Grace. You can pair these with your favorite shorts, skirt or light-weight pants. I would suggest the Touch Of Lace Denim Shorts and Resort Shorts. You can't forget about our All Star Sneakers, these will add a pop of color to any outfit. Then accessorize, accesorize!
My second way of pulling together the perfect holiday outfit is to accessorize with patriotic pieces instead of having it as your main piece. One of my go-to dresses this summer is the Hi-Lo Day Dress in royal. This dress is beyond comfortable and compliments any body type. I tie in 4th of July with our Modern Day USA Scarf and finish it with a versatile pair of wedges like our Legend Has It Wedges or Slip Into Spring Wedges. If you would like to be more subtle you can go with the Boldy Go Jumpsuit or our Boldy Go Romper.
I hope this will help guide you to put together an ensemble that shows off your patriotism and is effortlessly stylish. So 'go fourth', (see what I did there) and set off some fireworks with your red, white and beautiful self and celebrate the independence of this beautiful country!!!
